SUGAR HANDLING IMBALANCES

The inability to effectively process sugar and regulate blood glucose levels lead to the crash-and-burn symptoms of hypoglycemia and sugar diabetes. Hypoglycemia occurs when the blood sugar gets too low or drops too sharply. Diabetes occurs when the blood sugar gets too high.

Eating small, frequent meals that have adequate amounts of protein usually helps to stabilize blood sugar fluctuations. Avoiding or reducing the intake of caffeine and the refined carbohydrates and simple sugars found in most of the white foods (potatoes, pasta, white flour, and white sugar) is also a good idea. Other digestive problems, such as enzyme deficincies, usually need to be adressed as well.

SYMPTOMS:

  • Weakness and fatigue
  • Mood swings
  • Light-headed between meals
  • Shaky when hungry
  • Headaches
  • Sleep disturbances
  • Unexplained hunger
  • Need for afternoon coffee lifts
  • Candy cravings
